Valve Tappet Covers
Valve tappet covers are designed to cover the valves and rocker arms, keeping contaminants out and oil in. Tappet clearance is the space between the top of the valve stem and the rocker arm. Its purpose is to allow for some mechanical expansion and lengthening of the valve stem and engine push-rods as the engine warms up. These covers are removed when making valve adjustments with a feeler gauge and often accompanied by valve cover gaskets and seals.
