Converting from 630 chain to 530 chain has many benefits and almost no downside.

  • 530 Chain is as strong, if not stronger, than period 630 chain.
  • 530 Chain has many more options available. Color, Price, O-ring, X-Ring, non O-ring.
  • 530 chain is slightly lighter
  • 530 chain wears a little better
  • 530 chain is available at 99% of motorcycle shops

530 chain is 5/8" pitch

630 chain is 6/8" pitch (3/4")

Both are the same width of 3/8"

To determine sprocket size and chain length multiply the 630 sprocket and chain length by 1.2.

  • 15T become 18T
  • 35T becomes 42T
  • 92 Link becomes 110.4 link, or 110 link when rounded

If you want better acceleration, then increase the rear sprocket size, or reduce the front sprocket size. Most times, you do NOT want to change the factory gearing more than 10% up or down.

Increasing rear sprocket size may require a longer chain. Generally, going up 3 or 4 teeth on a rear sprocket WILL require a 2 link longer chain.
