The integral part of the kickstart system is the kickstart pedal. By pushing down on the ratcheting kickstart pedal with one foot, the crankshaft is forced to rotate, which pushes the piston up against the piston head. This creates pressure, and combined with fuel, air and sparks in the bore, the motorcycle starts and stays running.
